• June 28, 2004: NASA issues a Press Release highlighting the SINGS results on NGC 7331. 

• December 23, 2003: On December 18, 2003 NASA announced the new name of the Observatory would be the Spitzer Space Observatory, in honor of space astronomy pioneer Dr. Lyman Spitzer. Accordingly, the acronym SINGS now stands for Spitzer Infrared Nearby Galaxies Survey. 

• August 25, 2003: The Spitzer Space Telescope successfully launched from Cape Canaveral on Monday, August 25 at 1:35:39 a.m. EDT. 

• May 19, 2003: The paper SINGS: The SIRTF Nearby Galaxies Survey by Kennicutt et al. has been published in the August 2003 issue of PASP. 

• May 7, 2003: The new launch date is 27 August 2003. See the Integrated Launch Schedule. 

• April 20, 2003: The launch of the Spitzer Space Telescope has been postponed. A new launch date has not yet been determined but will be sometime in August 2003. Visit the Integrated Launch Schedule for updates.  

• April 16, 2003: The Spitzer Space Telescope launch has been rescheduled for April 27, 2003. 

• March 21, 2003: The latest launch date is April 18, 2003. 

• March 20, 2003: Martin Meyer, currently a graduate student at the University of Melbourne, will be joining STScI on October 1, 2003 to start his tenure as SINGS postdoc.
